History

An Equal Voice session.

In 1991 Pop-Up began to develop a stand-alone series of workshops focusing on self-esteem in situations of conflict and designed to encourage emotional expression. This programme was called Equal Voice and it also became a teacher-training package.

Equal Voice initially proved its effectiveness in primary schools as part of the Islington Anti-bullying Scheme. Whole school projects developed the technique and demonstrated the effect on improving the school and staff ethos.

The work of Equal Voice was extended into Pupil Referral Units, Schools for children with Emotional, Social and Behavioural Difficulties (ESBD) and Schools for children with learning difficulties.

Equal Voice has been successfully used with young people from 3 to 18 years old and was funded to become a resource for Greater London schools in 2002.

"Equal Voice is an excellent educational resource and staff and pupils have benefited from their time in the school."
